Designing Coday: silver, ink, and one canvas

Design2026-05-13 · 5 min read

The new Coday is a single canvas: pure black, two scales of silver, four status hues used sparingly. No theme toggle. No light mode. No accent gradients.

Why so dark

Vibe coders live in dark editors. The dashboard should feel like a peer — not a different application, not a different mood. So we gave it one tone and lived inside it.

Two palettes, used quietly

  • Silver scale (50 → 900) drives every text level and every hairline.
  • Ink scale (0 → 900) drives every surface, from page background to elevated cards.
  • Status hues — rose, amber, sky, emerald — appear only when they carry meaning.

Sharp corners, soft motion

Every corner is 2px. Every animation is 150–200ms ease-out. The page feels precise without feeling stiff.

Why surfaces, not panels

Cards are not flat. We layer a 9% silver veil over an ink base and pin an inset hairline on top. The result is a quiet light source — present, never loud.
